What’s hot? Oat Bran Bowls!

Hey Veg Peeps!

So I recently posted this on Instagram and received a lot of agreement that acai bowls are out and oat bran bowls are so in! Here’s the thing, I eat these for breakfast every morning, without fail, because they are so healthy and nutritious. In addition, they keep you feeling full all day! I used to work a job where I was on the go non-stop for at least 12 hours each day and had no time to stop and snack, let alone eat a meal. As long as I had my oat bran in the morning, I was set ALL day. It wasn’t the most balanced lifestyle, but it taught me that fueling your body with the right breakfast food will sustain through all that life can throw at you. That food is oat bran! In addition to all of that, oat bran is known to block fat absorption in the intestines by coating them, so the fat you ingest has to pass by. This does not eliminate ALL fat that you eat, which is good, because we NEED diets with fat in them. It just makes you feel a LOT less guilty about that basket full of french fries. What I’ve done is create these oat bran bowls much like people are eating acai bowls with the exception that oat bran bowls are REALLY healthy, energizing, and satiating. It’s not just the oats. Oat Bran is much healthier and has 50% more valuable fiber than oatmeal (3).

I swear if I skip a couple of weeks of eating my daily oat bran; I will start to gain weight. Eating this each day keeps an extra 3-5 pounds off of my body, which is always a good thing. *Note: Some weeks after posting this, I came across this article which cites a good amount of research, and if you read to the bottom it supports my stance that a high-fiber breakfast keeps 5 pounds off the body. They reviewed studies with persons diagnosed clinically obese and the addition of fiber alone (even via supplement) resulted in a 5-pound weight loss. Bottom line, this is a great way to get food and fiber into your body that actually facilitates health outcomes, reduces your weight, creates a difficult environment for fat to be absorbed, and reduces hunger by creating an environment that feeds your gut bacteria, so your that bacteria doesn’t disturb you with their hunger throughout the day. All of that, while still eating delicious, warm, and tasty eats in the morn’!

Oat Bran Bowl

Oat bran is so much healthier and tastier than acai bowls. Here I show you how I create mine each morning to be fun, fruity, nutritious, and delicious!

Cuisine American, Unprocessed, vegan, vegetarian
Prep Time 3 minutes
Cook Time 5 minutes
Total Time 8 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1/3 Cup Dry Oat Bran Bob's Red Mill is Best!
  • 2/3 Cup Boiling Water
  • 2 Tblsp Frozen Berries Of Choice Optional. Blueberries!
  • 1 Tblsp Coconut Shreds Optional.
  • 1 Tblsp Truvia Optional or Sugar
  • 1 Tsp Pecans Optional. Pieces

Instructions

  1. Place scoop (1/3 cup or more!) of dry oats in a heat-safe bowl (ramekin is my preference). 

  2. Add in frozen berries. 

  3. Add in twice as much water (2/3 cup) as your oats. Pour boiling water over frozen berries first.

  4. Let stand until desired texture is achieved. 

  5. Top with your choice of toppings! 

    Suggested-  2 packets of Truvia, 2 Tablespoons of Blueberries, 1 Tablespoon of Coconut Shreds, and if I have them, I also add 1 teaspoon of pecans. 

    Stir and enjoy!
