Vegan Garlic Knots

I shared this on Insta recently, so I wanted to also show you how EASY Vegan Garlic Knots can be. It just so happens these pair perfectly with my Vegan Caprese Salad 🙂 I adapted this recipe from a Youtuber I follow, Nikki Limo, who does awesome Tasty Tuesday videos with a lot of them being vegan. The main difference with her version is that she spreads the butter within the dough and then rolls it! Fabulous. I did my own take and took out about half of the butter.

Vegan Garlic Knots

Vegan garlic knots with the buttery topping baked inside the knot! There is not one bite that is not dripping with flavor.

Yeast Water

  • 1.5 Cups Hot Water
  • 2 Tsp Sugar
  • 2 Tsp Dry, Active Yeast


  • 4 Cups All Purpose Flour
  • 1/2 Stick Earth Balance Butter Melted 5 Tblsp
  • 1 Tsp Salt
  • 1.5 Cups Prepared Yeast Water See Above

Garlic Butter

  • 1/2 Stick Earth Balance Butter 5 Tblsp
  • 1 Tblsp Garlic Powder
  • 1 Tsp Oregano
  • 1 Tsp Dried Basil
  • 1/2 Tsp Salt


  1. Preheat oven to 400F and lay parchment paper on a baking sheet

  2.  Combine hot water, sugar, and dry, active yeast in a measuring cup and then set aside for 25 minutes.

  3. Wait until Yeast Water is ready and then in a large mixing bowl, combine flour, melted butter, salt, and yeast water, which should look foamy and fluffy. 

  4. Allow dough to rise (covered in a warm area) for 20 minutes (it will appear as though it has doubled in size).

  5. Massage dough and then push out into a flat but moderately thick sheet.

  6. Cut into strips. 

  7. Take a strip of dough and roll around your two fingers, rip dough, and pull tip through the underside of the dough wrapped around your fingers. 

  8. When all of the knots are laid out, butter your knots with the seasoned garlic butter both inside and out. Do this for all of them.

  9. Bake for 30 minutes.

  10. Let cool for 5-10 minutes

  11. Eat and enjoy!
