Have you heard of Veganic Farming yet? I hope so. If not, I hope by the end of this you’re enticed to find local options for yourself!
I came to love Veganic Farming after touring my local eganic farm back in 2012: http://www.sunizonafamilyfarms.com/
Sunizona Family Farms in Arizona describes Veganic Farming as, “Veganic. Think of it as Vegan-Organic, meaning certified organic growing that is free from the use of animal products (manures, blood, bone or fish meals, etc.) and uses strictly plant-based materials.
This type of growing decreases the potential risk of contamination from animal-related diseases & doesn’t introduce the hormones & other things fed animals that could have negative impacts to the environment & our health. Our journey to veganic growing has been a long one. We had always dreamed of the day we could be certified organic. However, because we didn’t want to follow the tradtitional animal-based organic growing methods, it took years of researching just what combinations of plant materials would achieve the proper balance of nutrients in the soil. The system that we have developed involves growing plants in a more natural manner than most traditional greenhouse organic methods and uses plant fertilizers that we have created using local waste plant materials. We use our own plant waste products along with other local waste plant materials, & ash from our Bio-mass boiler.”
Not only are veganic farms cropping up, but they are also hitting the shelves to be nationally available through Sunizona’s sister company: One Degree Organics, which makes cereals, breads, flours, and seedlings, such as: lentils, oats, and flax seeds, just to name a few. These items have become staples in my household. As such and to encourage healthy, veganic eating, I’ve built a wall of these products (and a few others) in my kitchen in order to ensure those are the items that I look at and eat most often. I’ll do a kitchen tour later to show you that! But, having this wall of veganic goodness has helped me save money and ensure I’m eating fresh, whole, and veganic daily!
Check out my latest haul just in time for summer picnicking!
